A contract is a contract in this country. A better question would be why did Sen. Chris Dodd put in a provision to protect these bonuses in the first place.
I think the public out cry should include his actions in this mess. In fact Sen Dodd and Sen Frank should both be held accountable for their part in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack debacle.

I agree. This so called 'bail-out' plan has been a mockery in showing just how stupid the American people are for believing President Obama (or anyone for that matter) could stop the 'rich from getting richer and the poor from getting poorer'. These big companies have lawyers galore working on where the loop holes are so they can take the money and run. Everyone is to blame. Congress already knew as they are a part of the 'pork barrel' / special interest system and aren't about to let all those high dollar perks go. President Obama should have learned from Merrill Lynch but then let the money go just for the asking anyway. And the American public for tolerating this happening over and over and over again. In the days of our fore fathers Americans boycotted the corrupt government and/or businesses. The feds should post every single name of every single company that has essentially stolen the bail out money so the American public can make an informed decision of about whether to revive boycotting again. Between now and then, the average everyday 'Joe the Plumbers' better tight your belts as it is only going to get worse.
You are an idiot. What they need to do is , Get the money back from the rich B's and stop all bail out until they do. There are a lot of people right now suffering without jobs that need the money more
